CMMD: Active Messages on the CM-5
نویسندگان
چکیده
Active messages provide an important new communication primitive for building message passing systems. CMMD, the message passing system of the CM-5, uses active messages as a basic substrate for constructing multiple, low overhead, communication paradigms. Examples are also given which show how developers may incorporate active messages in application-specific ways.

Ten years implementing codling moth mating disruption in the orchards of Washington and British Columbia: starting right and managing for success!
In 1991, Isomate C (Pacific Biocontrol Corp., Ridgefield, WA.) became the first commercial product registered by the United States EPA for control of codling moth. Currently, there are 5 products available including Isomate C+, CheckMate CM (Consep, Inc., Bend, OR), NoMate CM (Scentry, Inc., Billings, MT) and Disrupt CM (Hercon, Inc., Emigsville, PA). In Washington State in 1991, codling moth m...
متن کاملPorting a Vector Library: a Comparison of MPI, Paris, CMMD and PVM
This paper describes the design and implementation in MPI of the parallel vector library CVL, which is used as the basis for implementing nested data-parallel languages such as NESL and Proteus. We outline the features of CVL, and compare the ease of writing and debugging the portable MPI implementation with our experiences writing previous versions in CM-2 Paris, CM-5 CMMD, and PVM 3.0. We giv...
متن کاملQuantifying the Benefits of Areawide Pheromone Mating Disruption Programs that Target Codling Moth (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae)
A 4-yr research and implementation project in Michigan apple production showed that deploying pheromone-mediated mating disruption for codling moth, Cydia pomonella L., in an areawide (AW-CMMD) program where mating disruption is established on all apple-producing acreage on individual and adjacent farms, significantly improves control of codling moth. The areawide project was compared with mati...
متن کاملCMMD I/O: A Parallel Unix I/O
We have proposed a library providing Unix file system support for highly parallel distributed-memory computers. CMMD I/O supports Unix I/O commands on the CM-5 supercomputer. The overall objective of the library is to provide the node level (SPMD) parallel programmer with routines for opening, reading, writing a file, and so forth. The default behavior mimics standard Unix running on each node;...
متن کاملA Comparison of Different Message - Passing Paradigms
We present experimental results for parallelizing two breadth-rst search-based applications on Thinking Machine's CM-5 by using two diierent message-passing paradigms, one based on send/receive and the other based on active messages. The parallelization of these applications requires ne-grained communication. Our results show that the active messages-based implementation gives signiicant improv...
